Took the Shinkansen (Bullet) train to Kyoto and spent 2 days there. The city had many old shrines and temples with beautiful gardens. It was more modern than I expected and it was weird to see bars and clubs surrounding the temples. Travelling around Kyoto was not as easy as Tokyo, as the subway did not reach all the temples... buses were fun as most of the stops were annouced only in Japanese and we often missed our stop and got lost.

The fabulous pavilion at Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion). The graceful 3-story structure is totally covered in gold leaf and is topped by a bronze pheonix.
